Thanks to everyone who attended our recent Action Group meeting at the Dorrigo Community Centre. This was our first meeting on the plateau and the turn-out was impressive!
The meeting was intended to be an opportunity for Dorrigo plateau residents to share their needs and views about housing. The meeting was opened with a Welcome to Country by Uncle Robin Heath; and Uncle Cecil Briggs kicked-off the discussion by speaking to his people’s deep family roots on Country. Uncle Cecil also shared that secure and affordable housing is necessary to address the fragmentation of his community and hjis people to return to Country.
We also need to thank Daniel Bennett, Senior Strategic Planner at Bellingen Shire Council, who gave the meeting a sneak-peak at Council’s draft Housing Vision paper. We have received allot of positive feedback about the draft paper, with folk’s being particularly impressed with the way Council has blended a number of values and aspirations, such as inclusion, equity, sustainability and economic prosperity. In all the meeting was in agreement that the paper represents a fantastic strategic approach to our community’s future growth.
A special thanks to Fran and Vanessa who put allot of their energy into organising and promoting the meeting throughout their Dorrigo community. Our excellent turn-out is a credit to their work. And, of course, to our convenor Kerry Pearse for bringing her exceptional facilitating skills to the floor once again.
