We had a full house last night for the Federal ‘Meet the Candidates’ Forum at the Bellingen Memorial Hall. We organised the forum alongside the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce in the lead-up to the Federal election.
All candidates were present and ready to address questions and concerns from the floor. All candidates were asked prepared questions on a range of subjects, namely climate change, border protection and treatment of refugees, wage stagnation, housing affordability/negative gearing and income inequality. There were also questions from the floor that covered topics including the NBN to the future of local forestry and agriculture.
Our Action Group is keen to keep affordable housing high on the agenda during this Federal election campaign. We are glad local community members were able to hear their Federal candidate’s policy positions and plans for how they would fix the broken housing system.
Thanks to everyone for their constructive questions and participation during the forum. And a special thanks to the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce for their work and contribution to the evening.
